water pump conversion

if i used the 51-53 and industrial water pump conversion on my 53 331 how far would the end(fan surface) of the water pump be from the mounting surface of the block?

I measured a small block pump. The big block long pump is about an inch longer.

51 Coupe is correct. I measured the adapters for the 54 - 58 block not the timing cover/adapter for the 51 - 53. My bad.

Also, i think those adaters are for a big block water pump. The timing cover/adapter uses a small block pump. Don't know if there is a difference in length. Don't have any of them here.

I think Bob Call is thinking of the adapters for the 55 to 58 heads that have the water outlets on the front and back face of the heads. I just measured the Hot Heads timing cover from my '52. It measures 13/16 from the backside of the cover to the point where the water pump mounts!

Ok, the adapters are 11/16 thick and the pump is 6 1/2 inches from rear mounting surface to the front of the impeller shaft. This is a total of 7 3/16 inches. Then you have to add the thickness of 2 sets of pump gaskets, one on each side of the adapter, which will be about 1/8 maximum.

OK. I measured this not too long ago but did not write down the measurements. Best I remember, the adapters are 3/4 inch thick and the small block pump measures about 7 1/2 total length from front of the impeller shaft to the rear mounting surface. If I have time tomorrow I'll measure the pump and post the number.

This is confusing to me. What do you mean? Do you mean using a truck/industrial pump in the car timing gear cover/pump housing, or, do you mean using the entire truck/industrial timing gearcover/pump housing on your car block?

Next question, is there a difference in of the 51 - 53 car engine and the truck/industrial engine timing gear cover/pump housing?

Finally, why? Do you not have a car pump but have or can get a truck/industgrial pump? What's the difference between the two?

Other than additional cost, why not use a Hot Heads timing cover and pump adapters with a Chevy water pump?

No option for OEM fuel pump.
