Chrome Paint

Has anyone used or had any experiences with Spectra Chrome or any other brand chrome like paint on their parts? How durable is it around gas and just general scratch resistance? I am considering the gold color for my hemi intake and chrome for my valve covers. I understand it has a three layers. From what I read, it has base coat, then either a chrome or a gold coat and then a top coat. I am looking at using it versus chrome plating. I understand it is less expensive than chrome. What have you heard, seen or done on this type painting? Am I wasting money on a none long term look for my hemi? Thanks Bob for the space and anyone else with an opinion on this.

Wow Ron I just watched some guys spraying it on youtube. I cant beleive the overspray. It looks like a freakin' garden hose applying it. The finish is real nice. I noticed they were all doing plastic. I hope somebody has used it and makes a comment or two. Very wild process.

I dont know anything about the product you are considering. What I will say is I bet the cap for the can is real electroplated plastic and I bet the spray finish coming out of the can will look nothing like the cap for the can. Chrome is chrome and nothing coming from a spray can is going to produce the finish of electroplating. If you want to save bucks consider a hammertone powdercoat which you will have to send out as well.Careful use of a color high temp paint is the cheapest yet but if your looking for chrome you gotta go to a plating shop. Just my opinion.

It is sprayed on with an gun. It is a 3 coat process. The center coat being the shiny stuff.

At my place of work they have in the past, they electrostatically plated the backside of clear plastic for mirrors. It was a super fine ground aluminum powder, which looks and feels like a liquid in the can. The plastic is statically charged in a vacuum and the stuff collects on it like chrome does. It really looks like chrome. It got a black base coat on the back over the aluminum. The SpectraChrome may be something like that but from the adds, it looks like they don't do it in a vacuum.

Look up SpectraChrome on the internet. There you will see the equipment for this paint. It isn't cheap. I thought about buying a setup, but I am thinking more on finding someone who does it instead. Before I shell out cash for either, I was wanting opinions from you guys on it. Thanks.
