1958 Imperial valve covers


I have a pair of Imperial valve covers and one of the has two factory, insert nuts between and below the front two spark plug openings. Anyone know what the nutserts held?

They are factory, I've seen several sets like that. I have no idea what their purpose is though.

This subject came up a while back.
I have a set of these as well and some on here said that they were not factory, but I challenge that.
I think some one mentioned that they were oil return holes for hydraulic heater controls or something like that.
