What the heck


Hey Guys,
I took the car out for the first time today since the end of january, and i had to hurry home and barely made it at that.
The trip in january was about 70 miles round trip, and the car ran great at that time.
This morning i installed a new tach, ran the car till warmed up , oil pressure normal 45 # at idle, running fine. Just now I went out for a ride, barely could keep the engine going, less than 20 # pressure at idle, maybe lessbefore i turned it off, however if i raced the motor the pressure would come back up to 40 #.
Running 10-40 wt. oil. Edelbrock 750. Havent looked at the plugs yet.

Any ideas at all? This seems crazy to me.

Let's see, runs badly, low oil pressure, fouled plugs...
Have you checked your oil to make sure there is no fuel in it? That's about the only single thing I can think of that might cause all those symptoms. Another symptom might be black smoke or sooty exhaust.
Assuming you are running the same rotten gas with ethanol that I am, you might want to take a look at the float valves to see if they are clean and not gunked up. This gas is giving me problems with my original WCFB on my 354.

George,
I hadnt thought of that, bad fuel. I guess that it would be 8 plus weeks that the fuel has sat in the tank. Jeez, didnt realize fuel can go bad so quickly.
Do i dump the remainder? must be 7 or eight gallons.
Plugs were fouled out., wire brushed and reinstalled.
Ran car this afternoon, all seemed normal, but didnt get it up to hiway speeds

2 guesses...ethanol damage, maybe stuck oil bypass but that wouldn't make it run bad.
