gear vendors/PB 727/RPM drop

Anyone done this? Supposedly (and for real) rear pump prevents use of the long GV tail. Also found that 62-65? trucks have short tail. But rare bird.

Is bolt pattern in 727 case the same, 62/post 66?

Looking at making something. Ball bearing in tail of TF apparently takes sun gear pinion thrust on whole shaft, so not a cake walk.

Looking at shortening long tail slip shaft trans A block, 62/63 just rear of the ball bearing half way down.

no need for speedo drive .

On same page, anyone really know about upshift RPM of engine vs transmission with say 11" converter? Has to be slip in converter even at high RPM. so it you want upshift at 5800 trans might be at say 5500? how is this dealt with? Ask the question, you often get blank stares. Stall not the same at high RPM at all. Engine is 4.375 stroke 392.

RE: Question about why, is if you build the engine with 5500 rpm upshift in mind, cam etc, trans must shift at say 5300 at governor due to 200 rpm slip. If you do not address this, you will get a 5700 upshift. If it is 400 RPM at WOT< even worse go well into 6k and blow stuff up. And slow the car by overwinding

The issue is the auto trans upshifts by its governor has no idea what engine RPM is, right? So engine is more RPM than governed shift. By how much at say 500Hp 5500 trans, 11 converter?

yes newer pump etc will go in front, but 62-65 has a rear pump all different..yes want to keep PB setup.(keep car stock--a 300). Some old PB truck trans shorter (12" tail) but hard to find kind of oddball,,but yes good suggestion. Anyone have one?

Should be able to put newer style pump in the trans. Can use short tailshaft from a short trans (truck/van) and then use the short shaft GV overdrive set up. If using GV, the speedo attaches to that - after the OD.

I am assuming you are doing this to keep the cable shift???

Not sure what you are after on the last paragraph. If you are shifting at engine RPM 5800, why does it matter what the trans RPM is? What is the issue you need to overcome?

62 & up is the modern bell patterns, big & small blocks are, of course different.
