270 cam

Morning folks.
I have a 55 Dodge 270 Hemi, struggling to find a cam for it.
Are there any other options of cam that will fit???

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Charlie, and George.. similar issue. I contacted richard at Isky, he said he can regrind 270 stock cam to "mega hydrauilic 268 or 270 " . probably slightly smaller base circle but like .445 lift(now we are talkin) ; probably would not have longevity of stock cam, but this kind of motor maybe ok? Was looking at latest comp hydrauics ..note the two tiers of pricing now on mopar lifters. Supposed to be big improvement in hydraulics.

George, Did cam angle change on Raised block dodge , like it did from 354 to 392 ? Why a 325 cam to regrind for this, instead of 241/270? Nose? can cut that off right?

hemis don't need a huge amout of lift, especially a small CID one. Yes, you can regrind a 241/270 cam, just saying if a high deck cam was welded up enough it could be reground for low deck where he has (UK) after his name I'm assuming he is in the UK where things are even scarcer than here. LA timing gears can be modified to fit the dodge snouts.

Thanks George, no I haven't yet. Do you have any links to share please?

I read somewhere that it was possible to fit the cam from a bigger Chrysler motor but the lifter tubes needed machining??

As already stated, the Chr is a much longer engine than the Dodge, cam won't fit. Go to www.jalopyjournal.com then the Hokey Ass Message Board (HAMB). Then put "Hemi tech Index" in search & go to the master Thread.

The Chr cam is longer than the Desoto, & DeSotos are longer than the Dodge cams.

Google is your friend!

You are limited to the low deck dodge Hemi 241/270 cams unless you find an unused blank for the 315-325 high deck hemis. You might be able to weld up a 315-325 cam & regrind it, but would probably cost too much. Besides Bob, have you contacted Chris Nielson, QEC or other suppliers to see if they have one laying around?
