Isky 392 Cam degreeing question

I'm bolting together a 392 with stock cast piston replacements and a hyd Isky #3601 cam 485/280/232. It's going into a light streetrod with a HH Tunnel Ram 2x4's, 4-speed and 3.50 gears. When I degree the cam, should I try to achieve the same specs as the cam card or should it be advanced or retarded? Thanks!

You need a booklet called "INSTALLING AN ISKENDERIAN CAMSHAFT" from the book -- "most of our cams are ground with two or three degrees advanced to allow for eventual timing chain stretch. If upon timing you find it to be two to three degrees advanced at the cam it should be left in this position because subsequent stretch of the timing chain will retard slightly to split overlap." So that answers your question but why don't you have this book if you have an Isky Cam? I just happened to pick this up off my shop floor today. That is how you get split overlap in running conditions. I'm not smart I just read a lot.

You should ask Isky if they built any advance into the cam. Many come that way.

I would go for spec unless there is a reason to advance it like maybe a dirt track car. Retarding would be for a car getting too much power down low. For a street motor I would go for specs. Or degree it and see how close it works out to the card then decide. There would be lots of info on this in an Isky Catalog a lot of important info
